THE LINE BETWEEN GAMES AND REALITY
I am a
video game enthusiast like most of the boys of my age. But recently, I felt
that some of the experiences in games were being repeated in my real life, the
same day or the next day.A few days back, while I was playing
"Minecraft," a player who was new in this game, asked for directions
to find a desert. I helped him by telling the exact coordinates of the desert.
The next day at school a boy from grade one, who had just joined the school,
asked me for directions to his classroom and I gladly led him there. Another
time, while playing a game, my character was finding a treasure chest in a
jungle. As time increased so did the difficulty level. Dark clouds gathered and
then heavy winds and rain made it difficult for me to hunt the treasure. I was
caught up in playing the game until I felt my room getting darker and darker.
Out of curiosity, I opened the curtains and was surprised to see that out of
nowhere, the thick dark clouds had turned a bright and sunny day into dark and
stormy. I realized the line between the games and reality was getting thinner.
In a racing game, I ignored a warning sign and got my character into trouble.
Around three hours later while I was riding my bike, I did not pay attention to
a "Work in Progress" sign on a construction site and ran my bike into
the wet concrete floor. Bike's wheels got stuck in the wet concrete and I
barely stopped myself from falling. It was unusual how my choices in the games
were somehow affecting my real life. That is when I realized that perhaps those
happenings in the games were meant to teach me to play fairly, make good
choices, and good things will follow in real life.
