NOTHING IS EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING’S NOTHING.

Before much ado, I want you to do something for me really quick. Close your eyes, of course read this first then close your eyes, imagine something you love a lot. It could be your pet, a favorite Netflix show - maybe even a person. Done? Is whatever you’re thinking about means a lot to you? Does it make you happy? Well, spoiler alert. Someone out there despises it. What may be your “everything” could be someone else’s absolute “nothing”. Really puts things into perspective doesn’t it? Imagine meeting your own self at an aerial plane of some warped dimension, which I must say, sounds epic, and have you dissing on your own interests and the things you love just because the other you think that your original self’s ‘everything is nothing’. Ouch, right? So why are we so quick to attack people for their preferences in anything ranging from religion to what kind of cake they like? James Charles Morphe palette may be your thing but there will be someone out there who prefers Tati Westbrook’s palette. The reason why I’m straining my fingers and writing about this is to tell you that something as insignificant for instance there might be a music band you never cared about, but it could mean the world to somebody else who has grown up with that band. So instead of bashing people about their preferences, can we learn to respect them? Because what if your interests were the ones being targeted, making you feel like you have bad tastes. So just breathe and calm down. Not everybody has to like what you like, because what you grew up to love, someone out there may not have heard about it until they heard you ranting about it. The phrase “Nothing is everything. Everything is nothing,” is a pretty fun thought to bounce around your head. Think about it, okay? Also, this is probably my last piece ever for this school’s yearbook. Not that anybody cares but I hope you people have a good school year.
